Gumer Alvero

Gumer Alvero is President – Insurance & Annuities. Alvero is responsible for the leadership of our RiverSource Insurance and Annuity product lines, including sales of all RiverSource products. His functional responsibilities include product development & management (new and inforce), funds/investment management, sales and distribution efforts, marketing, service operations (e.g., new business, claims) underwriting and insurance and annuity conservation efforts, and the end-to-end client and advisor service experience.

Alvero joined Ameriprise more than 30 years ago and has been a member of the AWM Products groups since 1998. He was promoted into an expanded role as Executive Vice President and General Manager for both RiverSource Insurance & Annuities in 2021 adding the insurance line of business to his role leading the annuities business. Prior to that, Alvero held a variety of roles within Ameriprise Financial, including:

• Executive/Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Annuity Products Group, 2006 – 2021
• Vice President and Managing Director, Annuity Products Group, 1998 – 2006
• Executive Assistant to President/CEO of American Express Financial Corp., 1996 – 1998
• Program Director in the Financial Institutions Group, AEFC, 1994 – 1996
• Financial Analyst roles across Corporate Planning and Analysis, Mutual Fund Product Group and Retirement Services, 1989 – 1994

 
Alvero holds a Master of Business Administration and a bachelor’s degree, both from Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota.
