Ameriprise Financial Hosts Nationwide Volunteer Events in Partnership with Feeding America® to Help People Facing Hunger
“Hunger has been a serious issue in our country for decades, and now the need is even more urgent as inflation pushes food costs to new levels,” said Brian Pietsch, head of community relations at Ameriprise. “At the same time, our nonprofit partners are facing an immense amount of pressure as supply chain issues are making it harder to source, store and transport food to people in need. Volunteer shortages and the rising cost of labor stemming from the pandemic have made matters worse. Our Ameriprise employees, advisors and clients are eager to help fill these needs and work together to make a collective impact.”
The simultaneous impact of rising food costs and demand has created serious challenges for the Feeding America network of food banks,” said Lauren Biedron, vice president of corporate partnerships at Feeding America. “We are grateful to organizations like Ameriprise that have long supported hunger relief and will help us meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.”
Ameriprise Gives Nearly $2 Million in Grants to Nonprofits
In conjunction with its National Days of Service, Ameriprise announced nearly $2 million in grants to 105 nonprofits across the country*, which includes a renewed $250,000 commitment to Feeding America. The company awards grants twice annually to nonprofits focused on providing essentials to families, creating vibrant communities and engaging Ameriprise volunteers.
Recent grant recipients include:
American Corporate Partners, which helps returning veterans and active-duty spouses across the country find their next careers through one-on-one mentoring, networking and online advice. As veterans transition out of the military, many need career guidance ranging from creating a resume to building a civilian network. Since 2008, the nationwide organization has assisted more than 23,000 returning veterans.
Homeward NYC, which provides transitional housing for homeless mothers and their children, non-time limited affordable housing for LGBTQ young adults and long-term affordable housing for low-income and homeless seniors. Serving residents of all five New York City boroughs, each location offers support services including case management, counseling, referrals, and life-skills education programs.
Every Meal, which works to eliminate child hunger with community and school partnerships in Minnesota and Wisconsin. The organization’s Weekend Food Program provides 10,000 students with nutritious, culturally appropriate food on Fridays, filling the sustenance gap for children unable to receive free or reduced-price meals on non-school days.
The Shakespeare Theatre Company, which creates, preserves, and promotes classic theatre with universal themes for all audiences. The organization continues its long tradition of quality programming in the Washington, D.C. area with this fall’s production of The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci, made possible with support from Ameriprise.
*Total number of grants includes $95,000 in reinvestment from Ameriprise Bank.
